About Laser Stretch Mark Reduction

Stretch marks are a type of scarring on the skin that can appear red or dark brown in color. They can occur for many different reasons, such as pregnancy, extreme weight gain, or an accelerated increase in muscle size through weightlifting. Although they do not cause pain, they can be unsightly and cause a person to feel self-conscious about their body. Thanks to advanced laser technologies, such as eTwo™ by Candela™ and Fraxel® by Solta Medical®, we can safely and effectively treat unwanted stretch marks to diminish their appearance. If you want to improve the aesthetic of your skin, call Dermatology Southeast in Jacksonville, FL to set up a consultation with leading dermatologist Dr. Mary Pentel. Our practice also offers thread lifts to restore the look of your skin.

Candidates for stretch mark reduction

Ideal candidates for laser stretch mark reduction are those who have striae on one or more areas of their body. Stretch marks can vary in size, appearance, and color. They can also develop almost anywhere on the body, but the most common areas include the upper arms, abdomen, back, chest, and thighs. Laser therapy may not be recommended for people with certain skin diseases, infections, or underlying health conditions.

Stretch Mark Reduction Treatment

Laser stretch mark therapy is an outpatient procedure that we perform at our office in Jacksonville, FL. On the day of your appointment, we'll have you lie comfortably on your back or stomach as we apply the selected laser device (eTwo or Fraxel) to the target area. We'll pass the handheld laser piece over your skin until the entire area has been treated. Depending on your unique condition and the number of areas needing treatment, your procedure can take anywhere from 20 – 40 minutes. Once your treatment is complete, you'll be free to go home.

After Your Appointment

Following your treatment, your skin may appear red or feel like it has a sunburn, but these symptoms are temporary and usually dissipate by the following day. You can use an over-the-counter pain medication or a cold compress to ease any lingering discomfort. Depending on the specific laser technology used for your treatment, optimal results can generally be seen 2 – 3 months after your procedure. On average, we recommend 3 – 5 treatments spaced 2 – 4 weeks apart to achieve the best outcome. During your initial consultation, make sure to ask Dr. Pentel when you should return for your next session.
